James is a passionate reader and lover of literature and is keen to pass on this passion to those he tutors. He is a freelance writer: a published features journalist, travel writer and blogger with many different interests and topics often to do with community, travel to unusual places and walking and nature writing.

He has been a qualified Secondary school English teacher for fifteen years, ten of those years in a school graded ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted. James has taught a range of abilities across KS3 and KS4 and achieved excellent GCSE results in several consecutive years.

For the last eight years James has also been a private tutor teaching students one-to-one online and in their own homes.

James has years of experience teaching students with a range of abilities. He has tutored students with special educational needs including dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD and poor processing skills and has a range of strategies to enable the learning of those students. He has also taught many high ability students who have needed to work on creating an imaginative and convincing writing style or demonstrating they have that perceptive understanding to ensure they achieve the top grades at GCSE. Many of the students he tutored went on to achieve levels 8 or 9 at GCSE.

James is a fantastic tutor. He provided my son with scaffolding and support plus confidence to pass his GCSE English Literature and Language. He has separately restored my daughter’s self esteem post Covid and equipped her with the relevant skills to succeed. James can fulfil any brief and add value to the learning of any child. I wholeheartedly recommend him.
