Senior Examiner for OCR and Assessment Specialist for AQA

15 years of teaching and tutoring experience

Rachel loves being a tutor. She is extremely passionate about the value of studying Philosophy and Religious Studies and how these subjects can teach students to be inquisitive, solve problems and respect other people’s world view. Rachel believes that Philosophy and Religious Studies help students develop their own values and learn that there isn’t one ‘right’ answer but many.

Rachel finds it a real joy to watch students’ confidence grow and their marks improve as they cultivate their analytical skills. Her students have gone on to study at Oxbridge and Yale, work in America with Hilary Clinton, work to improve prison policies, train to become doctors and work in the charity sector.

Rachel taught AQA A-Level Philosophy at a Sixth Form College in Eastbourne. Since leaving teaching she has been working as a private tutor and examiner, she is a senior examiner for OCR and assessment specialist for AQA.

Rachel’s extensive examining experience gives her an insight into how students can best approach exams: how to answer questions to maximise marks, common student misunderstandings and timekeeping. She assists students with planning essays, improving their critical analysis and evaluation, revision techniques, note taking and application of ethical theories. Rachel has created her own range of resources to provide students with complete notes, essay guides, mock exams and revision checklists.

Feedback from students consistently describes Rachel as knowledgeable, friendly and able to breakdown and explain topics so that students can grasp the often complex material.

When not teaching, Rachel is a mum to two young and energetic kids. She enjoys cooking and loves to read books.
