SOLD OUT: Superheroes – Maths and English summer camp for Years 1 & 2

We’ll be using our superhero powers to solve problems, design and create our own superhero (including parts of our superhero costume!) AND write our own superhero action story.

To improve their reading skills, children will be reading a range of fact files about superheroes to retrieve key information as well as make basic inferences about their character. We will also be looking at using chunking to decode larger, polysyllabic words.

By the end of the week, the children will have developed their writing skills and will have written their very own superhero adventure. At first, the focus will be on securing basic sentence structure before exploring adding detail through the use of conjunctions. Following this, we will find ways to use more powerful vocabulary to increase the impact of our sentences!

Children will explore Maths over the 4 days by spending a day on each of the 4 operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Once children are secure/refreshed with the different arithmetic strategies, we will embed the strategies in superhero problem solving contexts.
