Year 5 Maths and English Booster Sessions 

Watling Tutors will be running Year 5 booster sessions this summer. This is for students who are moving into Year 6 in September 2021.

Sessions will include a mix of Maths and English topics, focused on cementing pupils’ understanding of the Year 5 curriculum and boosting their confidence for the new school year.

We are aiming to offer the following sessions:

Place Value with 1,000,000
Column addition and subtraction; rounding numbers; negative numbers.  
Comprehension
Focus on prediction and inference; and language for effect
Week 2Friday 6th August
9.30am – 11am
Multiplication and Division
Formal method up to 4 digits by 2 digits; short division; factors and multiples.
Suspenseful writing
Varying sentence length and structure; show don’t tell.
Week 3Friday 13th August
9.30am – 11am
Fractions
Improper fractions and mixed numbers; adding and subtracting fractions; multiplying fractions with a whole number.
Persuasive Writing
Modal verbs; rhetorical questions; appealing directly to the reader.
Week 4Friday 20th August
9.30am – 11am
Decimal and Percentages
Ordering and comparing decimals; percentages as fractions and decimals; multiplying and dividing decimals by 10, 100 & 1000.
Descriptive Writing
Using the five senses and figurative language to describe a scene
Week 5Friday 27th August
9.30am – 11am
Properties of Shape
Area and perimeter; calculating angles in shapes.
Newspaper reports
Retelling an event;
direct and indirect speech
In addition to the items above, we will also be covering mental maths and spelling, punctuation and grammar in each session.

At the moment, we are only working on a maximum capacity of 8 students owing to our commitment to being Covid secure. This is subject to change, depending on government guidance, but we recommend booking early to avoid disappointment.

Each 90 minute session costs £45 – or you can book all 5 sessions for £200.
